The Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-Gen. Olufemi Oluyede, has assured the Nigerian Army of more infrastructure, human resources and technology development.

Mr Oluyede said this at the inauguration of the newly constructed Soldiers Transit Accommodation at the Nigerian Army Ordnance Corps, Abalti Barracks, Surulere, Lagos.

Mr Oluyede, represented by the Corps Commander, Signals, Nigerian Army, Maj.-Gen. Gbemiga Adesina, said his commitment to modernising the army was unwavering.

He said investment in the Nigerian Army would make it a force able to meet the dynamic security challenges of the 21st century.

“Through these investments, we are fulfilling our responsibility to provide our troops with the best facilities and environment to carry out their missions successfully. This impressive edifice we are commissioning today is an integral part of this broad modernisation agenda,” the COAS said.

He said that when the troops were well-equipped, well-trained and had access to the most advanced tools, they would be able to respond to contemporary security challenges effectively.

Mr Oluyede charged those who would be using the accommodation to make good use of all the facilities and adequately account for them in their inventories.

He said, “I urge you to make good use of these new facilities and resources. Your commitment to excellence will ensure these advancements translate into greater operational effectiveness and readiness. “The Ordnance Corps, as a critical pillar of the Nigerian Army, plays an essential role in the transformation drive.’’

Mr Oluyede added that the inauguration of the transit accommodation aligned with his command philosophy.

According to him, his philosophy is focused on transforming the Nigerian Army into a well-motivated and combat-ready force that can effectively discharge its constitutional responsibilities within a joint and multi-agency environment.

He stated, “Every step towards improving our operational facilities, infrastructure and capabilities contributes to this vision.’’

Mr Oluyede commended the leadership of the Nigerian Army Ordnance Corps for conceptualising the project completed within a record time of six months.

The COAS also appreciated President Bola Tinubu for his support and strategic guidance to the Nigerian Army.

“I pledge the unalloyed loyalty of all officers and soldiers of the Nigerian Army in the discharge of our constitutional responsibilities. The Nigerian Army will continue to work assiduously until our nation’s myriads of security challenges are addressed. “We will continue to advance the vision of the Nigerian Army capable of defending the nation’s security interests and contributing meaningfully to regional and global peace efforts,” Mr Oluyede said.

The newly constructed accommodation has 29 flats, fully furnished to make the beneficiaries comfortable.
