Vice President Yemi Osinbajo says Nigeria needs to build on policies of the President Muhammadu Buhari regime.

“I believe strongly that the stage that our country is at, is one that requires continuity of the sort that will enable us achieve great results,” Mr Osinbajo said.

The vice president, in a statement by his media aide Laolu Akande, made this assertion during a courtesy visit to the palace of the Emir of Gwandu and Chairman, Kebbi State Traditional Rulers, Muhammadu Iliyasu Bashar.

Speaking further, Mr Osinbajo said, “I’ve served as vice president for the past seven years under the able leadership of President Muhammadu Buhari. During that seven-year period, I have had the unique opportunity to work with an open and transparent president.

“My experience is crucial, especially in governing a country of our size. This is why I decided to put myself forward to serve as president,” the vice president added.

Under Mr Buhari, Nigeria in 2018 displaced India to become the world’s poverty capital, according to a report by Brookings Institution, while rising inflation rates have sent prices of food and commodities through the roof, even as the CBN battles foreign exchange crisis.

While secessionist agitations have continued to threaten Nigeria’s unity, insecurity under the watch of Mr Buhari has taken a frightening trajectory as armed bandits and gunmen continue to kidnap for ransom and kill across the country,

In April, the Abuja-Kaduna train was bombed by bandits with eight killed and many kidnapped. Also, as at the time of this filing this report, the Buhari-led regime has failed to rescue any of the kidnapped citizens since their abduction in April.
