Niger pledges to complete sports facilities under construction

Niger State government has reiterated its commitment to completion of all ongoing construction of sport centres before the exit of the current administration.
Yusuf Suleiman, Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, said this on Friday in Minna.
The sports commissioner spoke during the presentation of the 2022 budget performance and 2023 budget defence by the state House of Assembly Committee on Youth and Sports.
Mr Suleiman said that sport centres such as the Ahmadu Bahago Sport Complex and Indoor Sport Centre would be completed before the exit of the present administration.
He disclosed that the state was recently adjudged as a home of traditional sports at the just concluded National Sports Festival due to its various sporting activities such as basketball, handball, squash, and badminton among others.
He disclosed that sporting activities suffered some setbacks as a result of the nature of some sports centres, adding that those centres when completed would attract youths to reduce restiveness.
On youth and women empowerment, the commissioner said that the budgetary allocation for the empowerment programme was low and appealed to the members of the committee to improve the allocation.
He, however, disclosed that the budget performance for 2022 was at 45 per cent, adding that about N300 million was proposed as capital projects for the ministry in 2023.
