Niger pledges adequate security during Munya by-election on August 16

The Niger State government has assured residents of Munya Local Government Area of the state of adequate security during the forthcoming by-election for the state House of Assembly.
The Deputy Governor, Yakubu Garba, gave the assurance on Sunday during his campaign across wards in the area, including Beni, Daza, Fuka and Dandaudu.
The by-election is scheduled for August 16 following the death of Joseph Haruna on September 13, 2024.
Mr Haruna represented Munya constituency in the Niger State House of Assembly before his death.
Mr Garba stressed the need for peace and calmness among voters, urging youths and women to prioritise peaceful conduct over disputes.
He said, “We must maintain civility and ensure a peaceful electioneering process. As a government, we have put measures in place to guarantee voter safety and promote transparency during the election process.’’
The deputy governor also appealed to voters to support the All Progressives Congress to attract more dividends of democracy and responsible governance.
He expressed confidence in the APC-led government’s commitment to providing good governance and accountability.
