NIA, police collaborate for stronger motor insurance enforcement

The Nigerian Insurers Association (NIA) says it is strengthening its alliance with the Nigerian Police Force to ensure greater compliance with the Third-Party Motor Insurance policy nationwide.
In a statement on Thursday, Bola Odukale, the director-general of NIA was quoted to have said this during a visit to the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Olorundare Jimoh in Lagos.
Mrs Odukale expressed her appreciation for the police’s efforts in improving compliance since the enforcement began on Feb. 1.
Mrs Odukale also acknowledged the role of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun, in championing the initiative.
Highlighting the NIA’s commitment to industry growth and consumer protection, she stressed the often-underestimated value of motor insurance.
To further support the police, the NIA pledged to conduct workshops for Divisional Traffic Officers to enhance their understanding of insurance, particularly the third-party requirement.
In response, Mr Jimoh affirmed the police’s dedication to enforcing the policy under the IGP’s directive, which includes daily reporting from commands across the country.
He also underscored the critical need for public awareness campaigns to tackle the issue of fraudulent insurance certificates.
