Newly elected Anambra PDP chairman promises to reconcile aggrieved members

Chidi Chidebe on Thursday emerged as the Chairman of the People’s Democratic Party in Anambra State in the congress held at the Women Development Centre, Awka
Mr Chidebe, a former PDP youth leader in Anambra State polled a total of 1,080 to defeat Amechi Onowu who scored 960 votes.
Charles Anierobi was elected Deputy Chairman while Ebele Onunkwo emerged as Secretary of the party.
Ifeanyi Ossai, the Deputy Governor of Enugu State, who was the Chairman of the Anambra PDP Congress Committee, urged the new chairman to rebuild, restore, and reconcile all aggrieved party members in the state.
Mr Ossai said that Anambra State was critical to the party and victory could only be achieved when members were united under one umbrella, urging the new leadership to work with those who contested but did not win.
He stated, “Last week, when we failed to conduct the congress, I assured PDP members in Anambra State that it would be free, fair, and transparent. I am happy that this came to fruition.’’
He urged the new executive to work harmoniously to secure victory in the 2025 governorship election.
In his remark, Mr Chidebe said his administration would focus on reconciling aggrieved members, increasing party membership, and embarking on grassroots campaigns to regain public trust.
He described his emergence as an “act of God” and extended a hand of fellowship to his opponent.
Mr Chidebe promised that the executive would collaborate to restore the PDP’s prominence in Anambra State and beyond.
He stated, “This is not a victory for one person; it is a victory for all of us. I assure you that my good brother Amechi and other contestants will work with us to restore our party. The 2025 Anambra State governorship election will not be business as usual.’’
