New polio case detected in southern Afghanistan

Local authorities have reported the detection of a new case of polio in the southern Afghanistan province of Uruzgan, spokesman for the provincial government Samiullah Akrama said on Monday.
According to the official, an eight-month-old girl was infected with the virus and cannot move her arms, legs, or neck.
At least nine polio cases have reportedly been registered in Afghanistan so far this year amid government efforts to eradicate the crippling disease among children in the post-war nation.
Afghanistan and Pakistan are among the few countries in the world that have yet to eradicate the wild polio virus.
