New Lagos CP assumes duty, vows to reduce crime

Moshood Jimoh has assumed duty as the 41st commissioner of police in Lagos State and vowed to reduce all forms of crimes and criminalities in the state.
Mr Jimoh, at his maiden meeting with command officers and journalists at the police headquarters in Ikeja on Tuesday, said crimes in the state were surmountable.
He pledged that the police would work with the government and residents to ensure that people and corporate entities do their businesses peacefully.
“The police will work very hard to ensure the protection of all investors – government investments and local and foreign investments in the state.
“The command will work closely with the state government, prominent, eminent personalities, and all other stakeholders that are committed to partnering with the police to ensure security and safety,” he said.
The police boss said the command would prioritise effective synergy, partnership and cooperation with sister security and safety agencies and services in the state.
“The command will be more proactive in crime fighting and prevention to detect, act and deal according to the laws with early warning signals of crimes and other threats, ” he said.
He promised that the techniques the command implements to fight crimes around identified black spots and other notorious crime scenes will be reinvigorated and improved to achieve results and get criminals off the streets of Lagos.
“The full weight of the law will be applied on criminals in the state. They are hereby strongly warned and advised to repent, abandon crime or leave Lagos state,“ he said.
Mr Jimoh said the command would sustain its onslaught on cultism.
“More than 50 suspected cultists arrested in the act had been arraigned in court and are currently under prosecution.
“We, therefore, urge parents and guardians to prevail on their children and wards to desist from cult-related activities or face the full wrath of the law, as the command will stop at nothing to rid the state of all acts of cultism,” he said.
According to him, the command will continue to uphold an open-door policy, ensuring a people-friendly and community-oriented approach to policing for all residents.
“Our approach to policing will be firmly rooted on the dictates of international best practices in policing. Professionalism, respect for human rights, and the human dignity of every resident will be religiously observed,” he said.
He said the command would uphold the zero-tolerance policy against corruption and unethical practices.
“In case of acts of any right violation, promptly reach out to the command’s Complaint Response Unit (CRU) by calling 09111111150 or via WhatsApp at 09111111151,” he said.
He appreciated the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, for finding him worthy and entrusting him with the responsibility of serving as police commissioner in Lagos state.
