NEMA, SEMA distribute relief materials to flood victims in Kano

The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) in collaboration with Kano State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) has distributed relief materials to 406 vulnerable persons and flood victims in Kiru Local Government Area of the state.
The Director-General of NEMA, Mustapha Habib, while distributing the relief materials on Saturday to the beneficiaries, said the relief items were meant to bring succour to the victims.
Mr Habib, represented by NEMA Coordinator, Kano Territorial Office, Nuradeen Abdullahi, said the donation was part of the federal government effort to support victims of disasters across the country.
He listed the distributed items as maize, rice, millet, guinea corn, noodles, beans, tomato paste, seasoning cubes, vegetable oil, cement, nails, roofing sheets and ceiling boards.
The director-general urged the public to adhere to early warning rainfall prediction by the Nigeria Metrological Agency (NiMet) to reduce destruction by flood.
Governor Abdullahi Ganduje said 306 flood victims and 100 vulnerable persons in Kano benefitted from the 7,415 bags of grains approved by President Muhammadu Buhari from the National Strategic Reserve Stock.
Mr Ganduje, represented by the Executive Secretary SEMA, Saleh Jili, commended Mr Buhari and the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential candidate, Bola Tinubu, for donating relief materials to flood victims in the state.
He advised the public, especially women using cooking appliances to handle fire with care and cultivate the habit of switching off electrical appliances after use to avoid inferno during harmattan.
Governor Ganduje also called on residents to desist from dumping of refuse and clear their drainages to avert flooding.
Responding, the Chairman Kiru Local Government Council, Muntari Isyaku, commended NEMA and Kano State government for the kind gesture and urged the beneficiaries to use the items judiciously.
Sani Lawal, who spoke on behalf of the beneficiaries, commended the agencies for the support and promised to use them judiciously.
