The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) on Tuesday donated relief materials to 800 households recently affected by flood and windstorm disasters in Ikara/Kubau local government areas.

Imam Garki, the North-West zonal coordinator of NEMA, presented the items to Aliyu Abdullahi, the member representing Ikara/Kubau Federal Constituency, for onward distribution to the affected victims.

Mr Garki said the federal government approved relief items for 800 households affected by flood and windstorm in the Pambegua and Zuntu communities of Kubau Local Government Area.

He said the communities had experienced severe flooding following heavy rains and windstorms in June, which affected about 4,800 persons, resulting in four fatalities.

Represented by Halima Sulaiman, the agency’s chief information officer, Mr Garki expressed condolences to the affected communities and urged the beneficiaries to utilise the items to alleviate their hardships.

He emphasised that the relief materials were intended to provide succour during these challenging times, not compensation for their losses.

The relief materials included food and non-food items, including rice, maise, vegetable oil, seasoning cubes, milk, beverages, and clothing for men, women and children.

Other items were Towels, mosquito nets, plastic buckets, diapers, detergent, zinc nails, and roofing sheets.
