NEDC says foodstuff distributed to Borno’s vulnerable groups

The North-East Development Commission (NEDC) has distributed food and other items to 106 vulnerable groups in Borno.
Speaking at the ceremony on Tuesday in Maiduguri, Mohammed Alkali, the NEDC managing director, said the gesture was to cushion the effects of the hardship in the country on the people.
Mr Alkali said the target was to reach out to vulnerable groups, including orphans, widows, Persons with Disabilities and indigent students of tertiary institutions.
He said the gesture was in line with the commission’s mandate to ameliorate the hardship caused the by Boko Haram insurgency in the society.
He said about 567 vulnerable households had benefited from the latest support of the commission to the people.
Mr Alkali urged vulnerable persons to always avail themselves of opportunities to empower them by the commission.
The Borno chairman of the Joint Association of Persons with Disabilities, Mohammed Abubakar, lauded the commission for timely support.
“This support coming at this critical time of inflation coupled with the Ramadan period is timely. We remain grateful to NEDC for the sustained support of vulnerable groups and urged other organisations to emulate it in complementing government interventions at this critical moment,” Mr Abubakar said.
