NECA commends FG on new procurement policy

The Nigeria Employers’ Consultative Association (NECA) has praised the federal government’s new procurement policy to enhance local production and drive economic growth.
NECA’s director-general and chief executive, Adewale-Smatt Oyerinde, made a commendation statement on Tuesday.
“This is a commendable move, a long-awaited economic strategy we have consistently advocated for,” Mr Oyerinde noted.
He said NECA had, for years, urged the government to prioritise buying goods made in Nigeria to support local industries.
“This will not only encourage production but reduce FOREX pressure, boost industrial growth, and create and sustain jobs,” he explained.
Mr Oyerinde, however, stressed the need for effective implementation of the new policy across all government bodies.
“Without full execution by ministries, departments, and agencies, the policy may face the same fate as others,” he warned.
The new policy, dubbed the ‘Renewed Hope Nigeria First Policy’, aims to strengthen the domestic economy, promote local content, and reduce Nigeria’s dependence on imports.
Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, said the new policy mirrored the U.S. “America First Policy.’’
Mr Idris said, “The Nigeria First Policy places our country at the centre of public procurement and business activity, with a strong focus on empowering local industries. It is designed to foster a new business culture that is bold, confident, and uniquely Nigerian.”
