NDLEA intercepts large illicit drug consignments en route to Borno, Kano, Abuja

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has intercepted over 38,000 pills of tramadol 225mg, 250mg and 100mg concealed in audio speakers and cloths heading to Borno, Kano and Abuja.
The NDLEA spokesman, Femi Babafemi, said in a statement on Sunday in Abuja that four suspects were arrested in connection to the illicit consignments in commuter vehicles.
Mr Babafemi stated that the suspects were arrested by NDLEA operatives along the Okene-Lokoja-Abuja Highway.
Meanwhile, in Lagos State, operatives of a special operations unit of the agency on Tuesday, January 14, raided the hideout of a suspected drug dealer in the Ojodu-Berger area of the state.
Mr Babafemi said NDLEA operatives recovered 10 parcels of Canadian Loud, a synthetic strain of cannabis weighing 4.9kg, from the suspect.
He said this included different paper bags he allegedly used in dispensing the psychoactive substance in retail quantities.
“Printed on them were street names and codes such as ‘Dead man’; ‘Gelato top shelf smoke’; ‘Topshelf’; and ‘Gelato cake’,” he said.
In other operations in Lagos, operatives of the state command of the agency on Wednesday, January 16, raided a house in the Igando New Town area of the Alimosho council area.
Mr Babafemi said NDLEA operatives arrested three suspects from whom 1,610kg skunk, a strain of cannabis and six kg pills of tramadol were recovered.
“Also recovered from the house were a delivery van and three other vehicles used for distributing the illicit drugs.
“Two suspects were also arrested on Saturday, January 18, when NDLEA officers raided their home at Addison Palmer, Cadogan Estate, Castle Rock Avenue, Osapa, Lekki Lagos.
“Twenty-eight kilogrammes of Canadian Loud were recovered following credible intelligence,” he stated.
