NDDC distributes food, supplies to communities affected by cholera in Rivers

The Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) has donated relief materials to Soku communities in Akuku-Toru Local Government Area of Rivers following the cholera outbreak in the area.
The Rivers representative on the NDDC Governing Board, Tony Okocha, presented the relief materials to the communities on Monday.
Mr Okocha said the donation was intended to mitigate the sufferings of the communities and was in line with the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Tinubu.
He commended the communities for their peaceful disposition and support to the medical intervention team sent by the commission during the scourge.
He charged them to support Mr Tinubu’s administration to achieve its renewed hope agenda.
Mr Okocha announced that NDDC had approved a mega solar-power water project that would produce 10,000 gallons of water daily.
He urged them to provide a bigger space for the project, saying that the contractor complained that the space provided by the communities for the project was small.
He thanked the board and management of NDDC, led by the chairman, Chiedu Ebie, and the managing director, Dr Samuel Ogbuku, for repositioning the commission for better performance.
The items included 400 bags of rice, 400 bags of beans, 196 tubers of yam, 159 bags of garri, 200 cartons of noodles, beverages, 200 packs of water, mosquito nets, slippers and toiletries, among others.
Responding on behalf of the communities, the chairman, Soku Council of Chiefs, Opuda Orumo, thanked the commission for bringing them succour.
Mr Orumo affirmed the loyalty and support of the communities to Mr Tinubu’s administration and the NDDC commission.
The area suffered an outbreak of cholera in March due to the scarcity of potable water.
