NCCE accreditation panel visits Kaduna COE, says exercise mandatory

The National Commission for Colleges of Education visitation panel has visited the Kaduna State College of Education, Gidan Waya, to assess and approve courses for accreditation.
The Provost of the college, Aku Ambi, received the accreditation team led by NCCE’s Director of Academic Programmes, Umar Kwami, at the school campus in Gidan Waya on Tuesday.
Represented by the Deputy Provost Academic, Abdullahi Mohammed, the provost said the institution had done everything humanly possible in terms of human resources and documentation to host the process.
The provost expressed optimism that the college would be given a pass mark at the end of the exercise.
He also commended the Governor Uba Sani-led administration in the state for approving and disbursing funds for the accreditation, which had been due since 2021.
In his remarks, Mr Kwami explained that accreditation of teacher education programmes at the sub-degree level was a vital mandate of the NCCE.
He said, “Central to this mandate is quality assurance and programme enhancement, ensuring the production of high-calibre basic education teachers. I assure you that thorough work will be carried out to present an accurate assessment of the college.”
According to him, NCCE accreditation serves as a platform for collaboration and advancement, not persecution.
“Its purpose is constructive, not destructive. Thus, it is a rigorous, resolute and equitable process,” he stated.
He noted that any NCE awarding institution offering teacher education programmes without NCCE accreditation or operating with expired or denied accreditation status was operating illegally.
He called on the management of the school to cooperate with the accreditation team to ensure smooth execution of the process.
