Naira Marley visits NDLEA chairman Buba Marwa, declares war against drugs

Controversial Nigerian artiste, Naira Marley, recently paid a courtesy visit to the chairman of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Buba Marwa.
Photos of this visit were shared on the Agency’s official X (formerly known as Twitter) handle on Thursday, taken at the NDLEA headquarters in Abuja.
NDLEA stated that Marley’s visit was in support of the ongoing campaign against drug abuse.
In their words, “Chairman/Chief Executive Officer of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (Retd), with music star Naira Marley, when the artiste paid a visit to the National Headquarters of the Agency in Abuja to declare support for the War Against Drug Abuse on Thursday 17th August 2023.”
The social media response to the post has been quite significant, with many seeing the move as an intriguing turn of events. Given Naira Marley’s history of publicly using marijuana, reactions to the NDLEA’s post have been varied.
“Naira Marley’s appointment as an advocate for NDLEA’s War Against Drug Abuse seems like keeping your friends close and your enemies closer,” posted Sheddy King on X.
“Naira Marley’s involvement could be beneficial for NDLEA; designating him as an Ambassador is a smart strategic move,” noted Ibukun Aluko.
The artist has previously been in the spotlight for his involvement in a fraud case with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
In 2022, Naira Marley faced an 11-count charge related to credit card fraud.
