My security details as speaker not restored; I have God with me: Meranda

Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mojisola Meranda, has denied that the security details attached to her were restored after the police withdrew them on Thursday.
Mrs Meranda disclosed this on Friday, after the Lagos High Court hearing of the suit filed by ousted speaker Mudashiru Obasa, challenging his impeachment on January 13, 2025, by 36 lawmakers.
The speaker’s special adviser on information, Victor Ganzallo, had on Thursday raised the alarm about the withdrawal of police officers and State Security Services operatives attached to Mrs Meranda, putting her life at risk amid the assembly crisis.
However, Commissioner of Police Moshood Jimoh, at a press briefing at the command headquarters in Ikeja on Thursday, said the security personnel were withdrawn for auditing and had been restored.
Debunking the police commissioner’s claim, Mrs Meranda said, “As you can see, I have my people here with me, and God is here with me.
“I have three or four policemen, whereas my normal convoy contains 12 policemen, four DSS and two anti-bomb, but as I have it this morning, I don’t have that.”
Mrs Meranda condemned Mr Obasa’s invasion of the assembly and breaking into her office, describing his plenary session with just four lawmakers as a theatre and “a show of shame”.
“I think he’s still a member of the House of Assembly, so he has every right to come but invasion and breaking into my office, that is really a big one. To me, that was just a show of shame because, in our job, we have numbers that form a quorum. So, if you’re sitting with three or four members, you’re only doing theatre.”
She, however, failed to state if disciplinary action would be taken against Mr Obasa, saying, “When we get to that bridge, we’ll cross it.”
