This week in the entertainment industry was filled with intriguing milestones by Nigeria’s finest artistes and also hot gossip from the Big Brother All-Stars house.
From the prestigious 16th edition of Headies which was the biggest convergence of Afrobeats finest with Asake getting the most nods at the Awards show and self-proclaimed “African Giant” acquiring seven nods at the BET Hip-Hop Awards.
Moyo Lawal’s sex scandal
Nollywood actress Moyo Lawal has appeared unbothered about a viral sex tape with an unknown man that surfaced on social media. The video went viral on Saturday and had some opinions from fans regarding the incident.
The actress is unfazed by the leaked sex tape circulating online. She engaged in unrelated activities on Instagram soon after the clips were released, completely ignoring the situation. She even posted about her movie role, which quickly garnered thousands of comments.
The Headies Award
The 16th edition was held at the Cobb Energy Centre in Atlanta, Georgia in the United States with its hosts as actress Osas Ighadaro and American TV presenter Terrence. J. as Rema, Burna Boy, Odumodu Blvck, Asake and others did the nation proud.
Asake emerged with the most nods this year and won in two special categories, “Next Rated” and “Album of the Year” for his project “Mr Money with the Vibe” and gave an electrifying performance. Fast-rising rapper, Odumodublvck, also won the highly contended “Rookie of the Year” and “Best Rap Single”; Rema won “Best Male Artiste of the Year,” “Digital Artiste of the Year,” and “African Artiste of the Year” and went home as the biggest winner as he coveted some of the biggest award categories. Burna Boy also won big. His hit single, “Last Last,” ironically won “Afrobeats Single of the Year,” and other Afrobeats acts won accolades acknowledging their achievements in the music industry.
Ayra Starr is not grateful for the Headies win
Nigerian singer Ayra Starr has voiced has dissatisfaction with the 16th Edition of the Headies following the off-stage presentation of the category she won.
In a tweet on her X handle, she captioned: “I will never be grateful for winning a category that wasn’t even deemed fit to be announced on stage! Best female artist, na beans ?” Ayra Starr fumed on X.
“We work hard, every single one of us! I’ve seen Tiwa record four hit songs in the same night; Tems breaths and lives for music. We didn’t deserve such nonchalance! Nigeria, you didn’t raise me to settle for less.”
Ayra was not grateful for the offstage presentation and termed the organisers “nonchalant” to present her award. Similarly, Wizkid did not pitch his pre-show interview and he declined to receive his award backstage at the BET Awards in 2015.
Burna Boy was nominated for BET’s “Hip Hop Artiste of the Year”
Burna Boy has been nominated for BET’s “Hip Hop Artist of the Year”, The self-proclaimed “African Giant” has been nominated for 7 categories in the BET Hip-Hop Awards,
He will be up against hip-hop heavyweights 21 Savage, Cardi B, Drake, Glorilla, J. Cole and Kendrick Lamar and it will take place on October 10.
The controversial artiste has been faced with criticism from audience on his behaviour in U.S. magazine and also his comments that Afrobeats artistes do not have “substance.”
BBN All Stars: Pere and Doyin Fiasco
Tensions escalated in the BBN All-Stars house as Pere and Doyin engaged in a heated argument over a rumour from Thursday night. The dramatic confrontation revolved around Doyin’s claim that Pere accused Cross of stealing Kim Oprah from him. Pere had denied Doyin’s claim, leading to the heated argument. As the argument got intense, with Doyin labelling Pere “fake”, the latter angrily punched the wall, as other housemates tried to address the matter.
