Mother throws one-year-old child into well in Delta

A 24-year-old lady has been arrested and detained in Delta State for throwing her one-year-old baby inside a well on April 24, 2024.
The public relations officer of the state police command, Bright Edafe, disclosed this on Friday in a post on his official X handle, stating that the alleged offence is infanticide.
“The suspect is a 24-year-old lady who lives in the Araya community in Isoko South. She threw her one year and four months baby inside a well on April 24 2024,” he said.
The state’s police spokesperson explained that “children who went to play around the well after three days found the baby floating after drowning.”
He said the suspect confessed that “she committed the dastardly act because she could no longer take care of the baby.”
Mr Edafe stated that the suspect is in custody, and the investigation is ongoing.
