Mother stranded after daughter evicts her from inherited home

A mother was left stranded after her unmarried daughter evicted her from her house in the United Arab Emirates.
Legal consultant Aisha Rashid Al Tunaiji, who discussed the case on Sharjah TV’s Qadiya Lil Hiwar on Monday, said the mother had transferred ownership of the house to her daughter to secure her future.
Dubai-based media outlet Gulf News reported that the affected mother had several sons who were married and doing well on their own.
Ms Al Tunaiji explained that the mother transferred the ownership to her daughter to protect her financial future and ensure she would always have a home.
“However, once the transfer was completed, the daughter evicted her mother from the house, turning what had been intended as an act of love and security into a distressing family dispute,” the legal consultant said.
She noted that despite turning to her sons to seek their help and intervention, the mother was told that she took the decision herself “by registering the property in her daughter’s name and would have to face the consequences”.
The transfer left the mother in a vulnerable position, as the daughter had become the sole registered owner of the property.
Ms Al Tunaiji restated the importance of understanding the legal implications of parents gifting property or transferring assets to children.
