Mother, daughter arraigned for allegedly beating neighbour

A 50-year-old woman, Angela Ugochukwu and her 20-year-old daughter, Priscilla, were on Thursday arraigned in a Kaduna Chief Magistrates’ Court for allegedly beating up their neighbour.
The police charged the defendants, both who live at Ungwan Maigero, Karji Kaduna, with assault and causing grievous hurt.
The prosecutor, Inspector Chidi Leo, informed the court that Jummai Richard, of the same address with the defendants, reported the matter on March 11.
According to Leo, a fight broke out between Ugochukwu and the complainant, after the latter accused her of always insulting her children rather than cautioning them.
The prosecutor said that Priscilla joined her mother in beating up the complainant when she saw them fighting.
“My Lord, the defendants used wood to beat up the complainant and they also injured her all over her body,” he said.
He said that the offence contravened the Penal Code of Kaduna State, 2017.
The Magistrate, Ibrahim Emmanuel, admitted the defendants to bail in the sum of N100, 000 each with one surety each in like sum.
Mr Emmanuel ordered that the sureties must be gainfully employed and show evidence of three years’ tax payment to the Kaduna State Government.
He adjourned the matter until April 30, for hearing.
