Miner’s Deaths: Shettima arrives in Minna for condolence visit

Vice-President Kashim Shettima has arrived in Minna, the capital city of Niger, to condole with the bereaved families and the government over the deaths of 37 miners in the custody of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps.
“Arrival of Vice-President Kashim Shettima in Minna to condole with the government and people of Niger State over the deaths of 37 miners who died in the custody of the Nigerian Civil Defence Corps,” said Abdullberqy Usman Ebbo, the special adviser on digital media and strategy to the governor, on Monday.
Mr Shettima was seen alighting from the aircraft before shaking hands with Governor Umar Bago and his deputy, Yakubu Garba.
Thirty-seven miners died while in NSCDC’s custody. The survivors narrated their ordeal in the security agency’s detention cell to Peoples Gazette.
The federal government constituted a 10-member independent committee to investigate the deaths.
