Mass transfer hits Ogun teachers

Teachers employed under the Ogun State Teaching Service Commission (TESCOM) have been transferred en masse across the state.
The commission’s chairman Olalekan Ifede justified the exercise, saying “it is meant to improve educational standards in the state.’’
Mr Ifede stated this at a meeting with education stakeholders in Abeokuta on Wednesday.
He said the measure would enhance even distribution of teachers across public schools in the state and help the under-staffed schools.
The administrator assured that the commission would reconsider cases of staff members with critical health conditions, urging teachers to embrace the new postings and continue to impart quality knowledge to students.
“The management intends to ensure that the academic performance of students in the state improves and this informs the transfers,’’ he said.
In his remarks, Waheed Olanloye, permanent secretary in the commission, urged stakeholders to partner with the state government in its on-going educational reforms.
Mr Olanloye explained that the process of reviving the education system required collaborative efforts of relevant stakeholders.
He advised teachers to discharge their duties diligently, adding that, “adherence to policies of the commission will put smiles on their faces as they will be rewarded physically and spiritually.’’
In separate remarks, the Principals-General of the Egba, Yewa and Ijebu zones commended the state government for prioritising the welfare of teachers as well as taking steps to enhance educational standards in the state.
