Akunyili’s Murder: Our society has degenerated, says Peter Obi

Former Governor Peter Obi of Anambra has described Tuesday’s killing of Chike Akunyili and seven others as a sad development for the state, expressing worry about worsening insecurity in the South-East.
Mr Obi spoke on Wednesday in an interview with journalists at the palace of the Agulu community traditional ruler, Igwe Innocent Obodoakor.
“It is a sad situation, and nobody can tell the reason our society degenerated to this level,” said the ex-Anambra governor
According to him, the development portends grave danger, if not urgently arrested.
“The only solution to this problem is a collective attention between the people and government,” he added.
Mr Obi said he had spoken to the late Akunyili’s child abroad and other immediate family members.
The Agulu ruler described the killing “heartless and very condemnable act,” stating that Mr Akunyili was “a peace-loving man and a great son of Agulu community, who could not hurt anybody.”
He added, “This is very terrible news, and I never believed that this type of thing will take place in this state.”
