Manchester City, Liverpool draw 1-1 as three-horse race for Premier League title heats up

Liverpool and Manchester City battled to a 1-1 draw, denying each other the top spot in the Premier League table. This result adds to Manchester City’s struggle at Anfield, where they have won just once in their last 21 visits.
Manchester City started the game strongly, testing Caoimhín Kelleher with early attempts from Julián Álvarez and Kevin De Bruyne. Liverpool responded with Darwin Núñez, who sent a header wide and set up Luis Díaz for a tap-in, only to be ruled offside.
De Bruyne orchestrated a breakthrough for Manchester City in the 23rd minute with a clever corner delivery, allowing John Stones to sneak in and score. Despite further attempts from De Bruyne and Erling Haaland, Liverpool had their chances with Dominik Szoboszlai and Díaz missing the target.
Liverpool found an opportunity to level the score within 90 seconds of the second half as Nathan Aké’s under-hit backpass led to Ederson conceding a penalty, converted by Alexis Mac Allister. Ederson’s injury forced his substitution, while Liverpool brought on Mohamed Salah, who created chances for Díaz, narrowly missing the target, and then losing possession to Kyle Walker.
Liverpool pressed for a decisive winner, with Stefan Ortega making a crucial save to deny Núñez and Jérémy Doku hitting the post for City. Despite both teams’ efforts, the match ended in a draw. Liverpool’s eighth consecutive unbeaten match places them just behind Arsenal in the title race, solely on goal difference, while Manchester City’s 21st consecutive unbeaten game leaves them a point behind the leading pair.
