Manchester City beat Manchester United to win Community Shield

Premier League defending champions Manchester City defeated Manchester United via penalty shootout to win this year’s Community Shield title at Wembley on Saturday.
It was City’s first Community Shield victory since 2019.
Both sides battled for goals throughout the first half with no success until Alejandro Garnacho broke the deadlock with a stunning strike in the 82nd minute, giving United the lead.
But United’s celebration did not last another seven minutes as City fought their way back into the game.
Bernardo Silva’s equaliser came as City’s lifeline to eventual victory.
With the score tied after 90 minutes, the game proceeded to a penalty shootout.
Jonny Evans fired United’s eighth penalty over the bar, while Manuel Akanji buried his into the net, handing City their first Community Shield win in over four years.
