Man sentenced to jail for stealing goat

A chief magistrates’ court in Kano has sentenced a 23-year-old man, Sadiq Miko, to six months’ imprisonment for stealing a goat worth N40,000.
Mr Miko, who lives at Tudun Murtala Quarters Kano, was convicted of theft.
Chief Magistrate Zubairu Inuwa gave the convict an option of a N30,000 fine after he pleaded guilty to the charge.
Mr Inuwa also ordered the convict to pay the complainant N40,000 as compensation for the goat or serve nine months’ imprisonment.
Prosecution counsel, Ahmed Sarki, told the court that Isah Bello of Ranji Quarters Kano reported the matter at Gwagwarwa Police Division Kano on July 10. He said the defendant stole the goat around 10:00 a.m. in the complainant’s house at Ranji Quarters, Kano.
