A mechanical engineer, Adetunji Adewale, has urged the Mapo Grade A Customary Court in Ibadan to dissolve his 14-year “loveless marriage” to his estranged wife, Adedoyin.

Mr Adewale, who lives in Asolo-Ireakari, an area of Ibadan, told the court that Ms Adedoyin did everything to make him an unhappy husband.

“I am tired of frequent domestic violence, which is clear from Adedoyin’s lack of love for me. To this end, I am no more interested in her. She left me in 2014.

“In spite of the fact that I have been responsible for our two children’s welfare, Adedoyin does not allow them to sleep over in my house.

“She is raising the children in an Islamic home, that is, her new husband’s house, whereas I am a Christian,” Mr Adewale said.

The petitioner sought an order to restrain the respondent from any threat and molestation.

Ms Adedoyin, a caterer and a resident of 26 Opeyemi, Idiroko, Asolo in Ibadan, consented to the suit.

“My Lord, don’t give Adewale custody of the children because they have been with me for about 10 years now.

“They are not used to him. He makes provision for their needs in addition to paying their school fees,” the respondent said.

Delivering judgement, the court president, S.M. Akintayo, pronounced the marriage between Mr Adewale and Ms Adedoyin dissolved.

Mr Akintayo, however, awarded custody of the two children to Ms Adedoyin on grounds that the children were already used to her and might feel traumatised if given to their father.

Furthermore, she granted the order restraining the respondent from harassing, threatening, disturbing and interfering in the private life of the petitioner henceforth.
