Man jailed seven years for defiling Yobe teenager

A Federal High Court, Damaturu Division, Yobe State, has sentenced a 20-year-old man, Dauda Umaru, to seven years’ imprisonment for defiling a 16-year-old girl.
The National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) stated this in a statement on Wednesday.
The agency said the court also ordered Mr Umaru to pay ₦1 million into the Victim Trust Fund Account and ₦500,000 as compensation to the victim.
According to the agency, the court, presided over by Justice Aisha Y. Salihu, convicted Mr Umaru for the offence under Section 16(1) of the Trafficking in Persons (Prohibition), Enforcement and Administration Act, 2015, as amended.
NAPTIP said the court further ordered that failure to pay the ₦1 million fine would attract an additional seven months’ imprisonment.
