Man in court over alleged theft of motorcycle worth N1.2 million

The police on Thursday, charged a 25-year-old man, Toheeb Hamzat, before a Grade A Customary Court at Mapo in Ibadan, Oyo State, for allegedly stealing a motorcycle worth N1. 2 million.
Hamzat is standing trial on a one-count charge of stealing.
He, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The court president, O.E. Owoseni, granted him bail in the sum of N450,000 with two reliable sureties in like sum.
Ms Owoseni added that one of the sureties must be a blood relative of the defendant, and must provide evidence of tax payment to the Oyo State government.
She held that the surety must also supply a valid means of identification.
The court consequently adjourned the case until April 30, for hearing.
The prosecutor, Inspector Ayodele Ayeni, had told the court that the defendant committed the offence on March 13 and March 14 respectively, at about 8.30 p.m., at the Labiran area of Ibadan.
Mr Ayeni alleged that the defendant stole a black coloured TVS motorcycle marked 219VID, from where it was parked.
He alleged that the motorcycle is owned by the complainant, Kazeem Suleiman.
According to the prosecutor, the defendant was eventually arrested following police investigation.
The offence contravenes the provisions of section 390 (9) of the Criminal Law of Oyo State.
