Man in court for stealing cameras worth N6.2 million

A 24-year-old man, Eromosere Ikpefan, alleged to have stolen two cameras worth N6.2 million, appeared before the Ejigbo Magistrates’ Court in Lagos on Monday.
The defendant, whose residential address was not provided, pleaded not guilty to the charges of stealing preferred against him by the police.
The prosecutor, ASP Benedict Aigbokhan, told the court that the defendant committed the offences on January 19 at Powerline Junction, Ejigbo, Lagos.
According to him, the defendant stole one Canon 5D Mark IV camera valued at N3.5 million, the property of Samuel Oladayo.
The prosecutor said the defendant sold the camera to Dalu Media Enterprises at Alaba International Market for N480,000.
“On the same day, the defendant stole from another person a Sony A7 camera, its battery, charger and two lenses, all valued at N2.7 million, the property of one Anthony Udong.
“He took the Sony A7 camera to computer village, Ikeja, and sold it to one Mr Onwuka at the rate of N500,000,” Mr Aigbokhan said.
The prosecutor said the total value of all stolen items was N6.2 million.
He said the offences contravened section 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos, 2015.
The magistrate, K. A. Ariyo, granted the defendant N50,000 bail with two sureties.
She ordered that the sureties be gainfully employed and show evidence of tax payment to the Lagos State government.
Ms Ariyo subsequently adjourned the case until March 25 for mention.
