Man in court for receiving fake dollar bills

The Police in Ibadan, Oyo State, on Thursday arraigned a 22-year-old Ibrahim Bello, over alleged receipt of counterfeit dollar notes.

Bello, whose house address was not provided, is facing conspiracy and unlawfully importation of counterfeit currency charges before at Iyaganku Magistrates’ Court, Ibadan.

The prosecutor, Inspector Folake Ewe, told the court that the defendant committed the offences on October 11, at 11.35 a.m. at Mokola area of Ibadan, Oyo State.

Ms Ewe said the defendant and others at large, conspired and received four pieces of 100 dollar notes, knowing them to be counterfeits.

According to her, the offences contravene Sections 159 and 516 of the Criminal Laws of Oyo State, 2000.

The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The Magistrate, Mrs T. G. Daodu granted him bail in the sum of N500, 000 with two reliable sureties in like sum.

She, thereafter, adjourned the case until January 7, 2025, for hearing.
