A 50-year-old man, Ogunjobi Francis, was on Wednesday arraigned before an Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrates’ Court over alleged threat to life and breach of peace.

Francis, whose address was not given, is facing a four-count charge of threat to life, breach of peace, unlawful entry and wilful damage.

The Prosecutor, Inspector Akinwale Oriyomi, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on March 15 at Oye-Ekiti.

Mr Oriyomi said that the defendant threatened to kill the complainant, Prof. Abayomi Fasina with dangerous weapons and charm.

He further said the defendant conducted himself in a manner likely to cause a breach of peace by entering a piece of land lawfully belonging to the complainant.

The prosecutor said that Francis wilfully damaged a gate lock and chain valued at N250,000 belonging to the complainant.

Mr Oriyomi said that the offence contravened Sections 46, 65, 3(4) of the Ekiti State Property Protection (Anti-Land Grabbing) Law 2019, and 363 of the Criminal Law of Ekiti State, 2021.

The prosecutor prayed the court for an adjournment to enable him to study the case file and present his witnesses.

The Defence Counsel, Emmanuel Adedeji, urged the court to grant his client bail, and promised that he would not jump bail.

The prosecutor opposed the bail application, saying that the defendant had a recent record of jumping bail.

The Chief Magistrate, Abayomi Adeosun, told the defence counsel to do a written bail application for the defendant at the next sitting of the court.

He adjourned the case until May 30 for ruling.
