Man in court for allegedly belonging to secret society

The police on Thursday arraigned a 37-year-old man, Ifaseyi Adesina, in Ibadan for allegedly belonging to a secret society.
Adesina, whose address was not provided, is facing a three-count charge of conspiracy, membership of unlawful society and possession of a live cartridge.
He, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge before an Iyaganku Magistrates’ Court.
The prosecutor, Sergeant Samuel Owolabi, told the court that the defendant committed the offences in 2022, at Amuloko, Ibadan.
Owolabi said that the police caught the defendant with one live cartridge, which he could not account for.
He added that the defendant belonged to a secret society known as ‘Alora’ confraternity.
Owolabi said that the offences contravened Sections 516, 64(a) and 430 of the Criminal Law of Oyo State, 2000.
The Magistrate, Gladys Oladele, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N200,000 with two sureties in like sum.
Miss Oladele adjourned the case until April 9 for mention.
