Man found dead inside car at National Assembly; police launch investigation

A man has been found dead in a parked vehicle at the National Assembly in Abuja, prompting police authorities to open an investigation.
The deceased, yet to be identified, was discovered on Sunday morning in a red Peugeot 406 with registration number BWR-577 BF near the office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF).
Police said the body, suspected to be that of a labourer working at a construction site within the complex, was found in a sleeping position on the back seat of the vehicle.
Spokesperson of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command, SP Josephine Adeh, confirmed the incident in a statement obtained by Peoples Gazette on Monday.
“On September 7, 2025, at about 09:00 hours, the FCT Police Command received a distress call reporting the discovery of an unidentified male, suspected to be a labourer, found lifeless at a construction site within the National Assembly Complex,” Ms Adeh said.
She added that officers attached to the National Assembly Division swiftly responded to the distress call and, upon arrival, evacuated the corpse to Asokoro General Hospital, where medical personnel confirmed that the body was already in an advanced state of decomposition.
The statement further disclosed that the FCT Commissioner of Police has ordered a discreet investigation to determine the cause of death and to identify the deceased.
“The command assures the public of its commitment to unravel the circumstances surrounding this incident. Further updates will be communicated as investigations progress,” Ms Adeh noted.
The corpse has since been deposited in the mortuary pending identification by family members.
