Man City thump Chelsea in top four battle; Liverpool maintain lead as Arsenal pip Wolves to keep pace

Manchester City’s rebound continues at the Etihad Stadium on Saturday as Pep Guardiola’s side secured an emphatic 3-1 comeback win over Chelsea to return to the top four of the Premier League table.
City and Chelsea were outside the top four spots before the game, and three points for either side was a direct ticket back into Champions League positions.
The encounter started with Chelsea going ahead as soon as the game began after Noni Madueke tapped Nicolas Jackson’s assist into an empty net in the third minute. Man City responded equally by closing the first half with a goal by Josko Gvardiol in the 43rd minute.
Man City led for the first time in the 68th minute through Erling Haaland, who let Ederson Morales’ long run down the right wing before chipping a left-footed effort over Roberto Sanchez, whose positioning went wrong.
Phil Foden sealed the win for City in the 87th minute after the unmarked England international slotted in a poked pass from Haaland, securing the three points to help the league champions return to the top four.
Meanwhile, Liverpool thrashed Ipswich Town 4-1 at Anfield to remain comfortably top of the table in the other fixture on Saturday — Dominik Szoboszlai opened the scoring for the Reds 11 minutes into the one-sided tie.
Mohamed Salah continued his impressive form and doubled the advantage for Liverpool in the 35th minute before Cody Gakpo netted the hosts’ third goal just before the halftime break.
Gakpo secured his brace of the afternoon after heading home Trent Alexander-Arnold’s assist from close range to make it 4-0 in the 66th minute before Jacob Greaves scored a consolation for Ipswich exactly on the 90th-minute mark.
The win took Liverpool’s season tally to 53 points, six points ahead of second-placed Arsenal, who secured a slim 1-0 win over Wolves courtesy of a 74th-minute strike by Riccardo Calafiori.
