Man bags two years’ jail for stealing Bajaj motorcycle

An Abeokuta Magistrates’ Court on Friday sentenced a 40-year-old man, Waliu Adeyemi, to two-years imprisonment for stealing a Bajaj motorcycle valued N300,000.
Mr Adeyemi, whose address was not given, pleaded guilty to the one-count charge of stealing.
The Magistrate, S. S. Shotayo, said that prosecution had proved the case beyond reasonable doubt that the convict was guilty of the offence as charged.
Mr Shotayo, however, convicted him to two years imprisonment or to compensate the complainant with the sum of N250,000.
Earlier, the prosecutor, Inspector Olaide Rawlings, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on May 16, at Idogbede Compound Ilara, in Imeko area of Ogun state.
Ms Rawlings said the convict stole an unregistered Bajaj motorcycle worth N300,000 belonging to one Idowu Adebowale.
She said the convict, who is a motorcyclist, borrowed the said motorcycle from the complainant to carry one of the complainant’s neighbours, but never returned the motorcycle to the complainant.
Ms Rawlings said that the convict made a confessional statement that he stole the motorcycle and sold it for N100,000.
The prosecutor said the offence contravened Sections 383(1)A(2) and 390 of the Criminal Code Laws of Ogun 2006.
