A 25-year-old man, Lekan Olaleye, was on Friday sentenced to two years’ imprisonment by a chief magistrates’ court in Abeokuta for stealing aluminium frames.

Mr Olaleye, with no fixed address, had pleaded guilty to the one-count charge of stealing.

The magistrate, V.B. William, convicted Mr Olaleye to two years imprisonment without an option of a fine following his guilty plea to the charge.

Earlier, the prosecutor, Insp. Lawrence Olu-Balogun told the court that the convict committed the offence on May 5 at about 7:30 p.m. at Ibara Housing Estate in Abeokuta.

Mr Olu-Balogun said the defendant stole the aluminium frames, whose value was yet to be ascertained.

According to him, the defendant was found with sacks of aluminium frames and could not explain where he got them.

He claimed that the defendant was caught by one Wale Akinola of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in charge of the Ibara Housing area of Abeokuta.

“The FRSC official accosted the defendant and interrogated him, but he could not give a satisfactory account of where he got the aluminium frames, which led to his arrest,’’ he said.

The prosecutor said the offence contravened section 430 of the Criminal Code Laws of Ogun 2006 and was punishable under the same code.
