Man arraigned for alleged membership of confraternity

One Afeez Aderibigbe, 24, was on Thursday brought before a Grade ‘A’ Customary Court, Ibadan, Oyo State, for allegedly belonging to a confraternity.
Mr Aderibigbe, whose address was not provided, was charged with conspiracy and belonging to unlawful society.
He, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The Prosecutor, Philip Amusan, told the court that the defendant allegedly committed the offence on April 19, at about 10.00 p.m., at Ultimate Hotel Fas Fas, area, Egbeda, Ibadan.
Mr Amusan said that Mr Aderibigbe, and others now at large, at the aforementioned area had in their possession some uniforms belonging to Alora confraternity.
He also said the defendant and the others conducted themselves in a manner likely to cause breach of peace by unlawfully gathering at the hotel to hold confraternity meeting.
He said the offences contravened Sections 516, 64(a) and 249(d) of the Criminal Laws of Oyo State, 2000.
The Court President, Moji Aworemi, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N250, 000 and two reliable sureties in like sum.
Mrs Aworemi held that one of the sureties must be a blood relation to the defendant and the other a religious leader with the provision of three years’ tax clearance.
She adjourned the case until June 3 for hearing.
