Man, 29, in court over alleged damage of eyeglasses worth N200,000

A 29-year-old man, Happy Okagbe, was on Tuesday arraigned before an Asaba Magistrates’ Court for allegedly damaging a pair of medicated glasses valued at N200,000.
The defendant is facing a count charge of causing malicious damage.
The Prosecutor, Susan John, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on September 10 at Faith Plaza, DLA Road, Asaba, Delta State.
Mrs John said that Okagbe maliciously damaged a pair of medicated glasses, property of one Ifeanyichukwu Favour.
She said that the offence was punishable under Section 517A of the Criminal Code Law, Cap C21, Vol. 1, Laws of Delta, 2006.
The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.
Magistrate Edith Anumodu granted the defendant bail in the sum of N500,000, with one surety in like sum.
Anumodu said that the surety must reside within the court’s jurisdiction and provide means of identification, two passport photographs and electricity bill.
She, thereafter, adjourned the case till November 7 for definite hearing.
