Man, 28, in court for allegedly assaulting police officers

The police prosecutor said that the offence contravened Section 187(b) of the Criminal Law of Ekiti State, 2021.

The Police on Wednesday, arraigned one Ademola Michael, 28, before an Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrates’ Court for allegedly assaulting police officers.

Michael, whose address was not given, is facing a charge of assault.

The Prosecutor, Inspector Olubu Apata, told the court that the defendant and others at large committed the offence on June 4 at about 12:30 p.m. in Ado-Ekiti.

He alleged that the defendant and others at large assaulted and obstructed one ASP Gabriel Kehinde and other officers, while discharging their lawful duties.

Mr Apata said the offence contravened Section 187(b) of the Criminal Law of Ekiti State, 2021.

The prosecutor asked the court for an adjournment to enable him to study the case file and assemble his witnesses.

The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge preferred against him.

Counsel to the defendant, Opeyemi Esan, urged the court to grant the defendant bail, with a promise that he would not jump bail.

The Chief Magistrate, Taiwo Ajibade, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N10,000 with one surety in like sum.

She adjourned the case until July 1 for hearing.
