Man, 24, arraigned over alleged theft of clothing materials worth N440, 000

A 24-year-old man, Taofeek Akanbi, who allegedly stole customers’ clothing and other tailoring items, on Wednesday, appeared before an Ojo Magistrates’ Court in Lagos.
The defendant is standing trial on a three-count charge bordering on conspiracy and stealing.
He, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The prosecutor, ASP Simon Uche, told the court that the defendant committed the offence in October 2024, at the Ojo-Igbede area of Lagos.
He alleged that the defendant conspired with others, now at large, to steal customers’ clothing, from a shop belonging to one Paul Oladimeji, valued at N150, 000.
Mr Uche said, “The defendant also stole a mannequin stand valued N50, 000, and roofing materials valued at N30, 000. He also stole sewing machine parts valued at N80,000, generator parts valued at N60,000, sewing materials valued at N40,000, and overtime fuel money valued at N30,000. The stolen items are all valued at N440, 000.’’
The defendant was also alleged to have stolen the head of a sewing machine belonging to one Alaba Okeowo, whose value has yet to be known.
The prosecutor said that the offence contravenes the provisions of Section 287 and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
Magistrate, L.K.J Layeni, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N300, 000 with two sureties in like sum.
He adjourned the case until May 7, for hearing.
