Man, 21, in court over alleged membership of unlawful society

The police on Tuesday arraigned a 21-year-old man, Olawale Oladoyin, for allegedly belonging to unlawful society.

 Oladoyin, whose address was not provided, is standing trial before an Iyaganku Magistrates’ Court, Ibadan, Oyo State, on a two-count charge of conspiracy and belonging to unlawful society.

The prosecutor, Inspector Olalekan Adegbite, told the court that the defendant committed the offences sometime in 2023, at Moniya area of Ibadan.

Mr Adegbite said the defendant and others at large unlawfully belonged to Alora confraternity, an unlawful society.

He said the offences contravened Sections 516 and 64(a) of the Criminal Laws of Oyo State, 2000.

He, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge, preferred against by the police.

The Magistrate, Oluwabusayo Osho, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N1 million with two reliable sureties in like sum.

Ms Osho, held that one of the sureties must be a blood relation to the defendant while the other surety must have a landed property.

She, thereafter, adjourned the case until January 22, 2025, for hearing.
