The Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) has intensified waste evacuation and environmental cleanup operations across several parts of Lagos State.

The development was disclosed in a statement shared on Thursday on the X handle of the Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab.

According to the statement, the LAWMA intervention team carried out the exercise at Awoyaya, Ologunfe Bus Stop along the Lekki-Epe Expressway, NAFDAC Spot and the Oshodi-Apapa Expressway.

Other locations covered included Cele Bus Stop, Ijanikin, Leventis, Outer Marina, Iyana Ipaja, Isheri Olofin/Ira, Ketu-Ejinrin General Hospital and Ojuelegba Under-Bridge.

The statement said the exercise aimed at addressing waste accumulation, restoring environmental sanitation and improving public health across the state.

“The exercise is aimed at addressing waste accumulation, restoring environmental sanity and ensuring cleaner, healthier communities for all residents,” it stated.

LAWMA reaffirmed its commitment to sustaining the intervention operations in affected areas to maintain a cleaner environment.

The authority also urged residents to adopt proper waste management practices and support ongoing sanitation efforts.

“LAWMA remains committed to sustaining these intervention efforts while encouraging residents to embrace proper waste management practices and support the collective goal of a cleaner Lagos,” the statement added.
