The Lagos State Environmental Protection Agency has sealed off a mosque and other establishments over alleged noise pollution and violation of other environmental laws.

In a post on its official X handle on Wednesday, LASEPA explained that the operation by its officials was to address non-adherence to the state’s environmental laws.

LASEPA said, “In a decisive move to address noise and other environmental violations throughout Lagos State, the Lagos State Environmental Protection Agency has intensified  its enforcement efforts by sealing off several establishments in Alausa Ikeja, Ogba, Surulere, Sabo Yaba, Ebute Metta, and Shomolu.”

The agency said the sealed establishments, after not heeding to previous warnings, were  “12 Meals Lounge, Bel Papyrus, Grand Hyatt, Oluwatoyin Mosque, MultiStyle Supermarket, Special bread bakery and Understanding Bar.”

LASEPA General Manager, Babatunde Ajayi, urged other establishments to abide by the state’s environmental laws, noting that the agency was committed to strictly enforcing them.

“We will not tolerate non-compliance with our regulations. All businesses must recognise their environmental responsibilities and collaborate with the state government to ensure a noiseless, cleaner and more sustainable Lagos that is safer,” he said.

The agency insisted that the enforcement operation emphasises LASEPA’s dedication to maintaining the status of the state as a leading hub of excellence and a pacesetter state committed to ensuring a clean and sustainable environment for residents.
