Lagosian faces life imprisonment over defilement of eight-year-old girl

The Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday remanded a 42-year-old man, Festus Nwaegela, to the Kirikiri Prison custody for defiling an eight-year-old girl.
Chief magistrate O. A. Layinka ordered that Nwaegela be kept at the facility pending advice from the director of public prosecutions.
The court did not take Mr Nwaegela’s plea.
The magistrate adjourned the case until April 2 for mention.
The prosecutor, Lucky Ihieme, had told the court that the suspect committed the offence on December 18, 2023, at Tejuosho Federal Road, Ebute Metta.
Mr Ihieme alleged that the defendant sexually assaulted the minor by penetrating her anus.
The alleged offence contravenes section 261 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
The defendant risks life imprisonment if found guilty of the offence.
