Lagos: NAFDAC arrests company owner for altering cosmetic products’ expiry dates

The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has arrested a company owner in Lagos State for allegedly specialising in revalidating expired cosmetic products.
In a statement shared on its official X handle on Tuesday, NAFDAC identified the suspect as Kingsley Awuh, the owner of Precious Jewel Int’l Nigeria Limited.
NAFDAC said Mr Awuh, whose company is at River Plaza Trade Fair Complex, Lagos, was nabbed after an intelligence report.
The statement read, “Following an intelligence report, NAFDAC uncovered a business at River Plaza, Trade Fair Complex, engaged in revalidating expired cosmetic products.
“Precious Jewel Int’l Nigeria Limited was found altering expiration dates on products such as White Xpress Cream, Silka B Cream, Bond’s Magic Powder, Bio-Skin Lightening Lotion, Classic Hair System Fair Spotless Cleanser, Oil-Free Acne Control Oil, and Vaseline Blue Seal.”
The agency said its operatives seized packaging and sealing machines and other tools from the facility.
“The owner, Mr Kingsley Awuh, attempted to escape upon the arrival of NAFDAC officers but was tracked down and arrested,” it added.
NAFDAC assured that the suspect will be prosecuted.
