Lagos: Man in court for assaulting lover

The police on Monday arraigned a 38-year-old man, Chinedu Eze, before the Ogudu Magistrates’ Court for allegedly assaulting his lover.
Mr Eze, who resides in Ikosi Ketu, is facing charges bordering on alleged assault and conduct likely to cause breach of the peace, to which he pleaded not guilty.
The prosecutor, Insp Sunday Bassey, informed the court that the defendant committed the offences on January 27 at Adeyemi Street, Ikosi, Ketu.
He alleged that the defendant assaulted his lover, Blessing Nwafor, by engaging in a physical fight.
According to the prosecutor, the defendant had been physically, emotionally, and verbally abusing the complainant since 2021, when they began living together.
He said the last incident occurred on January 27, when the defendant physically assaulted the complainant, resulting in injuries to her neck and leg due to a misunderstanding.
Mr Bassey said the offences violated section 173 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State, 2015.
Magistrate O.A Daodu granted the defendant N200,000 bail with two sureties in like sum.
She adjourned the case until March 18 for trial.
