Lagos: Man, 45, arraigned for defiling 14-year-old girl

The Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court, on Thursday, remanded a 45-year-old man, Gambo Mohammed, in a Correctional Centre for defiling a 14-year-old girl.
The chief magistrate, E. Kubeinje, who did not take Mr Mohammed’s plea, ordered that the case file be sent to the director of public prosecution for advice.
She adjourned the case until November 5 for DPP’s advice.
The defendant is facing a charge of defilement.
Earlier, the prosecutor, John Iberedem, told the court that the defendant committed the offence in August in the Ijedo area of Lagos.
Mr Iberedem said that the defendant forcefully had sexual intercourse with the girl.
He said the girl reported what had happened to her mother, and the defendant was apprehended and taken to the police station.
Iberedem said the offence contravened Section 137 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
The section stipulates life imprisonment for anyone found guilty of defiling a minor.
