Lagos health college students give management 48 hours to reverse fee hike

The Lagos State College of Health Technology Students’ Union on Tuesday, opposed a tuition hike recently announced by the institution’s management.
The union in a statement signed by the President and General Secretary, Akolade Omotuyi and Favour Animashaun respectively, issued a 48-hour ultimatum to the institution’s management, demanding an immediate review and reversal.
The union stated, “It is disheartening to note that this decision was taken without consideration of the prevailing economic realities facing students and their families. At a time when many are already struggling to meet basic academic and personal welfare expenses, such an abrupt and steep hike in fees is unfair on students.”
The union stated, “Students noticed the hike of more than #50,000 on the school fees, while the majority also complained about paying for services during the previous session which they didn’t receive.”
The union called on the management to refrain from adding to the financial burdens of the students and their
parents.
LASCOHETSUG stated, “In respect of the general congress meeting, held on September 23, 2025, conducted by the SUG, with majority of the students present and departmental presidents representing their respective students, the students have unanimously declared the increment unacceptable and are demanding that the decision be immediately reviewed and reversed.
“We hereby issue a 48-hour ultimatum to the school management to revert the fees to the previous rate. Failure to address this issue within the given time frame will leave the student body with no choice thank to embark on a peaceful but sustained protest to assert our rights and protect our welfare and until we are heard we are engaging on peaceful protest that may indefinitely disrupt all academic activities on campus.”
Efforts to reach the institution’s director of public affairs and dean of students affair were unsuccessful, as request for comment sent to their mobile were not responded to as of the time.
